This page explains how investment choice works for Accumulation and Defined Benefit members, including members of the Retained Benefits Section.
Defined Benefit members have investment choice for their additional accumulation accounts. These accounts are generally made up of any additional top-up contributions you may have paid to the Fund, or amounts that you may have rolled into the Fund from other Super Funds. Investment choice is not available on contributions that relate directly to your defined (salary-related) benefit.
There are two levels of investment choice to suit different members. Level 1 offers pre-packaged investment options, Level 2 allows you to choose your own mix of asset classes and design your own hybrid investment option. If you don't make a choice, your super, including the additional accumulation accounts of Defined Benefit members, will be invested in the Active Balanced option. This is also the option for MySuper members.
Level 1 - Pre-packaged investment options
You can invest your super in one of the pre-packaged investment options below.
|Option||Investment Return Objective||Investment strategy||Volatility level|
|Assertive Plus||CPI + 4% pa over each seven-year period||The Assertive Plus is invested mainly in Australian and international shares and property.||High|
|Assertive||CPI + 3.5% pa over each seven-year period||The Assertive option is invested mainly in Australian and international shares and property, with around 15% in defensive alternatives and fixed interest investments.||High|
|Active Balanced||CPI + 3% pa over each five-year period||The Active Balanced option is invested mainly in Australian and international shares and property, with around 30% in defensive alternatives, fixed interest and cash investments.||High|
|Conservative||CPI + 1.5% pa over each three-year period||The Conservative option is invested mainly in fixed interest, cash and defensive alternative investments, with about 30% in shares and property.||Low to Medium|
Level 2 - Design your own investment option
You can design your own hybrid investment option by investing your super in any combination of the prepackaged options plus the specific asset classes below:
- Australian shares: Invests purely in Australian shares and aims to outperform, after tax and fees, the S&P/ASX 300 index over rolling four-year periods.
- International shares: Invests purely in international shares and aims to outperform, after tax and fees, the MSCI World (excluding Australia) index in Australian dollars over rolling four-year periods.
- Divisified Fixed Interest: Invests purely in Australian and International fixed interest investments and aims to outperform, after tax and fees, the return on a benchmark comprising: 50% UBS Composite Bond Index / 50% Barclays Capital Global Aggregate Index (Hedged) over rolling two-year periods.
- Cash: Invests in cash and cash equivalents and may include credit and asset backed securities. It aims to outperform, before tax and fees, the Bloomberg AusBond Bank Bill index.
